For those who are adventurous, there are several routes available online. They take you to the most beautiful and special places in the region.
You can bring your own bike or you can rent a Unicorn Mobility ebike at our facility soon. Estrela ebike electric Mountain bike tours in the Serra da Estrella can give you an incredible experience discovering the most beautiful location of Portugal.

The former railway “Linha do Dão”, closed in 1988, connected Santa Comba Dão with the city of Viseu. In 2011 this railway was transformed into a spectacular bike and walking path, called the “Ecopista do Dão”.
The first part of this path, runs along the banks of the river Dão. Every bend is followed by stunning views. The landscape with views of mountains and valleys covered with oaks, cork oaks, chestnut trees and vineyards, cultivated land and small villages. In the distance the mountains of the Serra do Caramulo and the Serra da Estrela are always present.
With 49 km, it is not only the longest Ecopista of Portugal, but probably the most beautiful! Quinta da Abelenda provides bicycles, mountain bikes and cycling information for the region of Santa Comba Dão and Viseu.

“O Pioneiro do Mondego” is a family owned company of adventure sports and eco-tourism in Penacova. Their main activities are the daily kayak-trips downstream the river Mondego between Penacova and Coimbra. The descents are a perfect activity for couples and families with children, for lone nature-loving travelers or as a teambuilding activity for companies.
Their kayak tours are one of the main outdoor activities in Coimbra, Portugal.
Pioneiro do Mondego was founded in 1988 by two Belgian teachers, Dirk and Kristien, and was one of the first companies in adventure tourism in Portugal. “O Pioneiro do Mondego” is a national and international reference; in 2014 the company has been nominated among the top-15 highlights of Portugal by the “Rough Guides”.

Whether you are hiking or just want to find a nice spot to relax you will be spoilt for choice in rural Portugal. With the beautiful nature in the region of Coimbra between the ´Serra da Estrela´ the highest point of Portugal Continental, the Caramulo Mountains and the “Serra do Açor” you will find Roman ruins, rock formations, Dolmen, rivers and small waterfalls, the atmosphere of the Portuguese countryside, sheep, goats, the friendly people…and the most beautiful sights.
We have several hiking trails from 1 to 4 hour around the accommodation and many geocache treasures to find…
There are several routes available online that you can download on your mobile phone or other device, many treasures to find with Geocaching locations in the neighborhood !!
Leen, a friend of the family, can take you to the most beautiful spots in the Serra da Estrela or in the neighborhood. You can choose for a Hike taking a couple of hours or a hiking tour of a couple of days with camping outside. There are walks for beginners and experienced hikers.

Program example:
“WALK ON THE ROOF OF PORTUGAL”
We begin at the reservoir at the “Vale Rossim”, a lovely swimming spot. Walking along the river, we are led to the “Roof of Portugal”, where the views are spectacular and breathtaking. Along the way to the “Roof” you will encounter many species of beautiful flora and fauna, enjoy and feel free to admire your colourful surroundings. This is an easy and gently rising path, where we get the sense of the freedom of flight! Halfway along the walk we come to a rock which we could climb, if you wish. After our climb we begin to descend, crossing through the bush back down to the reservoir.
This is approximately a 4 hour hike.
